This Bride Becomes 11th Woman In Her Family To Wear 120-Year-Old Wedding Dress

According to the old tradition, bride must wear “something old, something new, something borrowed, and something blue” to her wedding. Abigail Kingston from Pennsylvania, U.S., got the “old” part down perfectly! She becomes the 11th bride to ever wear a 120-year-old family wedding dress. The first bride to wear the dress was Mary Lowry Warren in 1895; the last bride – her mother, Leslie Kingston, who was married in 1991. (H/t: Boredpanda)
Meet Abigail Kingston, a 30-year-old gorgeous bride. She tries on a 120-year-old family wedding dress.Abigail will be the 11th woman in her family to get married in the same dress.
The gown consists of two pieces: satin and lace skirt and bodice with puffy sleeves.
It was handmade in New York City in 1895 — for Kingston’s great-great-grandmother, Mary Lowry of Buffalo.
Abigail remembers taking piano lessons as an 8-year-old while staring at black and white photos of the first six brides in the dress.
“I just kept looking up at the pictures and saying, ‘I hope one day I can be married and I’ll wear the dress,’ ” the bride told. “I’ve always wanted that fairy tale.”
The dress was not without its troubles; when Abigail received it, the dress had yellowed and was full of tears and holes due to its old age.
After 200 hours of painstaking expert restoration, she was still only able to wear it to the cocktail hour, as it was too fragile.
Abigail will don the 120-year-old masterpiece when she marries her groom at The Lake House Inn in Pennsylvania on Oct. 17.
