Abubakar said it is important for the insurgents to embrace peace because possibly, they might become useful citizens contributing positively to the socioeconomic development in Nigeria.

He added that to achieve high record success in the counteroffensives, the military have deployed the 7th Brigade of the Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) in the Lake Chad Basin to ensure a total blockade of possible escape routes in the region.

This deployment is said will also forestall further infiltration of the terrorist elements into the country and its neighbours.

Abubakar said the Nigerian Armed Forces in its renewed commitment to clear the country of insurgency will continue with the ongoing coordinated joint assaults on Boko Haram in the northeast until the operation of the guerrillas are totally impaired and collapsed.

“To this end, the coordinated operation of the security forces in the contested area designed to dismantle the technical preeminence and capabilities of the terrorist group would intensify because the masquerading guerrillas should not be given any breathing space to regroup and re-strategize their campaign,” Abubakar said.

Since the three-month deadline given to the military by President Buhari to exterminate insurgents in Nigeria, the military have stepped up on operations in the North East.
