Bayelsa Election: APC Candidates Are Gathering An Army Of Militants And Cultists – Dickson

Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa state has raised an alarm alleging that the aspirants of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in his state are gathering an army of militants and cultist in preparation for the state’s governorship election scheduled for December 5.

Dickson who made the comment while speaking to journalists in Lagos, also said the APC is not a formidable party in the state, advising the chieftains of the party to focus on building the party for now.

According to The Nation, Dickson opined that if the poll is free and fair, the APC will not make any impact even as he warned against rigging, adding that it will lead to tension and chaos in the Niger Delta region.

He further condemned the recent controversial governorship primary of the APC which was inconclusive stressing that neither of the candidates can dislodge him from his seat.

He said: “APC governorship aspirants are gathering an army of militants and cultist, which the President is unaware of. They know they cannot win in a free and fair election. It is dangerous tobring back militants and criminals.

“The two aspirants want to get to the State House by leaning on the power of incumbency at the centre. What will Sylva or Alaibe tell Bayelsans that they have done for the state? They have over-bloated ambition and ego. The two Timis do not stay in Bayelsa. They want to create problem and run to Abuja or Lagos.

“I am grounded in Bayelsa. The support for us is overwhelming. I have the PDP and I have God. The major players are supporting my second term bid. Sylva, who could not fly as a senatorial candidate in the last election, wants to be governor again. He knows that he cannot win.”

Recall that the APC governorship primaries which held last Tuesday, September 22, had been nullified due to security challenges. The election which held at Samson Siasia  Stadium, Yenagoa, had produced Timipre Sylva as the winner and the party’s flag bearer in the poll.

However, Governor Adams Oshiomhole of Edo state, the chairman of the committee for the primary had said the election did not take place, describing Sylva’s victory as a ‘huge joke‘.

Reacting to the statement, Sylva had described Oshiomhole’s claims as a deliberate “act of mischief” and “lies”, saying it was very clear the governor never wanted to conduct the primaries as scheduled.

Governor Dickson has recently been in the news over his reported reconciliation with Mrs. Jonathan. Meanwhile about two months ago, the former first lady was said to be supporting the ambition of Sylva, to return as the governor of the state.
