Good News! LASU Grants Male Staff Paternity Leave

The authorities of the Lagos State ‎University (LASU) on Monday, September 28, advised male members of staff to make use of the paternity leave, approved for workers in the State’s Public Service‎, News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports.

This was contained in the university’s official bulletin. The bulletin noted that while female members of staff of the institution had been going on maternity leave, their male counterparts were yet to go.

According to the publication, the male members of staff, ‎who wish to apply for paternity leave, are to do so on the first day of delivery of the baby.


The bulletin further said: “In addition, for deliveries that fall on weekends, application should be forwarded to the establishment on the first day of work.


“Please, note that paternity leave is for the first 10 days in relation to and at the time of the first two deliveries of a male staff’s spouse.”

The university authorities on Monday, September 8, 2014, had approved the implementation of the new Lagos state maternity and paternity leaves for officials in the state’s public service.


Meanwhile the Lagos State University Students Union (LASUSU) called on Governor Akinwunmi Ambode to end the ongoing crisis between the institution’s vice-chancellor, John Obafunwa, and the staff unions.
