Happy Independence: Federal Government Declares Thursday Public Holiday

The federal government has declared Thursday, October 1, public holiday in the country, for Nigerians to mark the 55th Independence Day.


The Punch reports with reference to the statement by Abubakar Magaji, the permanent secretary of the Ministry of Interior, that the information was made known on Monday, September 28.


Magaji congratulated Nigerians living in and outside the country on the festive occasion and urged them to support President Muhammadu Buhari in building the united and peaceful nation.

Meanwhile President Buhari is yet to return from his eventful trip to the United States where he has already met with several top officials, including South Korea’s President Park Geun-hye, UK’s Prime Minister David Cameron and US former president Bill Clinton.
