AMAZING! This Ex-Super Eagles Player Has More Premier League Appearances Than Terry

Glo Premier League veteran Victor Ezeji made history on Monday, September 28 when he came on as a late substitute for Heartland to feature in his 20th season in the Nigeria league.

It was however a day of mixed feelings for Ezeji as his team Heartland went down 3-1 to their host Bayelsa United in a rescheduled Week 31 game played this morning.

Ezeji came on in the 84th minute for Fortune Omoniwari but could do little to safe his team from losing to their host.

Earlier this season, it looked like Ezeji had retired from the game, but the League Management Company gave approval to Heartland, to register the striker for the remaining matches of the 2014/2015 Nigeria Professional Football League campaign.

LMC’s chairman, Shehu Dikko, explained that the approval was made in line with the relevant provisions of the NPFL framework and rules, which allow the body to grant waivers for players to move clubs outside the transfer window.

Ezeji, 34, has one CAF Champions League title, three Federation Cup trophies and two league titles below his belt, including a back-to-back win of the league trophy with two different clubs; Enyimba and Dolphins, to rank as one of Nigeria’s most decorated domestic players.

The forward won the CAF Champions League with Enyimba, being part of the Kadiri Ikhana led squad that won Africa’s most prized club honour in 2003.

Same year, 2003, Ezeji won the Glo Premier League title with Enyimba before a move to Dolphins where he also won the League trophy and went on to win two Federation Cups.

In all, Ezeji has six domestic silverwares glittering his trophy shelf and the striker once had spell at Club Africain of Tunisia.

Ezeji has also featured for Sharks, Dolphins, Enyimba and Sunshine Stars in the past 20 seasons, scoring in all these campaigns.

Ezeji played in three international matches for the Super Eagles scoring in all three games.
