President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday in New York said his administration is determined to rescue the abducted Chibok girls alive and unharmed.
Speaking at the United Nations General Assembly, the president said, “One of our major aims is to rescue the Chibok girls alive and unharmed. They are always on our minds, and in our plans.”
He said his administration has succeeded in driving terrorists operating in the North Easter region of Nigeria away from their strongholds.

“We have driven Boko Haram away from their strongholds, killed or captured many of their commanders, “ Buhari said.
He also said the proposed sustainable development goals should mirror the hopes and aspirations of the world development by by taking up practical responsibilities.
The president also proposed a seventh group – peace – out of the six groups including fighting inequality and ending extreme poverty already proposed by the UN secretary general, Ban Ki-Moon.

On April 14, 2014, 276 schoolgirls were abducted from their hostel in Government Secondary School, Chibok in Borno State by some Boko Haram terrorists. While 57 of them managed to escape from their abductors, 219 others are still under captivity.
The military has also since a deadline given by Buhari recorded successes in the fight against insurgents in the North East.
