Ooni Of Ife’s Best Friend Goes Ahead With 80th Celebration Despite Death Report

Yesterday, a book was launched in honour of billionaire businessman and philanthropist, Chief Alex Duduyemi who also doubles as Ooni of Ife’s best friend. 

The Aro and Asiwaju of Ile-Ife Chief Duduyemi will be turning 80 on 9th August 2015.

A public presentation of a book titled: ‘Quintessential colossus’, to commemorate the 80th birthday of Chief Alex Duduyemi was held in Victoria Island, Lagos.

The event had in attendance eminent Nigerians including the Awujale of Ijebuland HRM Oba Sikiru Adetona and the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo, former head of the defunct Interim National Government, Chief Ernest Shonekan; former Vice Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Oye Ibidapo-Obe and they all paid glowing tributes to the foremost philanthropist, Chief Duduyemi describing him as a philanthropist per excellence.

The book launch has Chief Shonekan as the chairman while Professor Ibidapo Obe reviewed the book.

Chief Alex Duduyemi’s 80th birthday celebration will continue on Sunday, 9th August 2015 with a thanksgiving service at St. Phillip’s Cathedral, Ayetoro, Osun State after which a reception will follow at Gity Event Centre in Ile-Ife, Osun State.

Chief Duduyemi’s friendship with Ooni of Ife, Oba Okunade Sijuade, has spanned many decades. They belong to the same social clubs and rocks social gathering together.

So many were surprised that despite the rumoured death of the first class monarch, his close friend could still go ahead with his birthday celebration.

Chief Alex-Duduyemi is a graduate of North Western Polytechnic, Kentish Town London (1957). He then attended Lincoln’s Inn Law School, London from 1957 to 1960 where he gained his Law degree and he was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1961.

He is an Officer of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (OFR) and a Barrister at Law of the Lincolns Inn, London.

He was a member of the Federal House Of Representatives in the First Republic and Parliamentary Secretary to the Prime Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
