18 Years On, Fela To Be Celebrated this Weekend

How time flies, its eighteen years already that Fela Anikulapo Kuti has left the world. And a celebration to mark the late Afrobeat legend is in top gear.



The New Afrika Shrine and Street Media Solutions present the 3rd edition of The Afrobeat Party, an annual musical concert tailored to celebrate the life and times of the late Afro beat legend.


The Afro beat Party is known for creating a networking scenario for music lovers and the socially active population in the country.

Previous editions of the event have seen an array of performances from top artistes in the country like General Pype, Dammy Krane, K- Switch, Runtown, Efa, Cynthia Morgan, Tillaman, Flowsick, Remi Aluko and many more.


Speaking on the event,  Yemi Williams, founding partner at Street Media Solutions said: ‘This year would be its third edition and all arrangements have been made to celebrate the 18th year passage of the greatest music icon -Fela Anikulapo Kuti in a memorable way that will stay in the hearts of many for a long time.’

The 2- day event is billed to kick-off in the evening of Saturday, August 1 and ends on Sunday, August 2, exactly 18 years Fela left the world at the age of 58 in Lagos, Nigeria. About 1 million people attended his funeral procession which began at Tafawa Balewa Square and ended at Kalakuta Republic in Ikeja where he was buried.



About two months ago, In a bid to show how much he loved the late Afrobeat legend, Starboy, Wizkid added a fresh tattoo of him to his collection of tattoos and showed it to the world.
