All African Games: Oba Akinruntan Promises Reward For Successful Athletes

The Olugbo of Ugbo Kingdom in Ondo State Oba Fredrick Obateru Akinruntan, has promised huge financial rewards for athletes who return from the upcoming All African Games with medals.

The royal father who is also the proprietor of Febson Hotel, Abuja, made this known at at the send forth dinner organized for the athletes on Sunday by the management of the hotel.

General manager, Otunba Sebastian Edigan praised the athletes readiness for the games as they lodged in Febson hotel. He also hailed the commitment shown by  director general of the National Sports Commission, Al-hassan Yakmut.

In a press statement released by the NSC on Monday, Edigan said: “Karate, Judo, taekwondo and Swimming athletes both were camped at his Hotel for the last one month, and because the NSC has demonstrated it will to take the nation sports to a higher level which was manifested during the camping, the management of the hotel has no option but to key into it programs by organizing a send forth party and promise to reward those athletes if they excel in Congo.

“From what I saw while the athletes were in camp, Al-hassan Yakmut is channeling a new course in our sports, they was total commitment to the athletes by the NSC and the athletes themselves were awesome and I know if they go there they will make us proud, that is why we did this to encourage and motivate them.”

Camp captains; Kingsly Onuele and Franca Audu promised Nigerians that the team will perform well at the games just as he praised the hotel management for its hospitality and gentle spirit. They as the financial rewards added extra motivation to their quest of winning the games.

Coach Bashir Bassey (General Coach) and coach Poland Benazimo (Swimming) who spoke at the event boasted that the country will surpass its achievements at the games an finish first overall in the games. 

In a related development, Nigeria returned from the just concluded World Athletics Championships with zero medals. Athletes who were at the games claimed they were ill-prepared for the games which finished on Sunday.
