Airforce Helicopter Crash: El Rufai Commiserate With Victims’ Families

Following the crash of an Air Force helicopter which went down at the site of the old National Defence Academy in Kaduna state yesterday, Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state has released a statement commiserating with the families of the victims. 



In a statement signed by the governor’s chief press secretary, Samuel Aruwan, the governor also condoled with the Chief of Air Staff, and the officers and men of the Nigerian Air Force over the incident.

According to the News Agency of Nigeria, the statement quoted the governor as saying that he received the news of the plane crash with “shock and sadness”.


The statement added: “We offer our deep condolences to the families, who have been bereaved by this incident.


“May Almighty God, in His infinite mercies, grant their souls eternal rest and uphold their families in this moment of grief and sorrow.” 


The helicopter, which was on a routine Air Force training flight was heading to Abuja from the Nigerian Airforce base in Kaduna, when the incident occurred.


In a swift reaction to the crash, the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, has set up a panel to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash. The helicopter was a NAF Dornier-228 aircraft with call sign NAF030.

The incident comes 2 weeks after an helicopter owned by Bristow Nigeria Limited crashed into the lagoon in the Oworonshoki area of Lagos just five minutes before landing. Four people died in the accident.
