Today marks Nigeria’s 55th independence anniversary from her British colonial masters. Naij.com presents how Lagos, the former capital of Nigeria, celebrated the day.

Governor Ambode, missing in action
The anniversary which was held at the police college, Ikeja, as against the usual Tafawa Balewa Square was not as colourful as those observed during the era of the former governor of the state, Babatunde Fashola. The event was equally not well attended.

In fact, the Lagos state governor, Akinwumi Ambode, did not attend the ceremony. He was represented by his deputy, Oluranti Adebule. No explanation has been given for the governor’s absence.
Ambode has come under fire from Lagosians over his perceived non-performance.
Also, the opposition party in the state, PDP, attacked the governor over the inclusion of relatives of the National leader of the party and former governor of the state, Bola Tinubu, in his list of commissioners and advisers.
