Northern Youths Accuse APC Leaders As Forces Behind Saraki’s Travail

The All Progressives Congress youths from the north slammed the leadership of the All Progressives Congress as being behind the travail of Senate president, Bukola Saraki.

Saraki was arraigned by Code of Conduct Tribunal on 13-count charge of false assets declaration.

The youths insist that Saraki can only face trial when all governors and other public office holders’ assets declaration faced similar scrunity as that of the Senate president, Daily Post reports.

The leader of the group, Shehu Ibrahim said that the APC claims that it was safeguarding internal democracy were just mere lip service adding party is in opposition to Saraki.

Ibrahim said: “This is not the first time the Senate President, Bukola Saraki is holding public office. He has held several offices before now even as a Governor and sitting senator, but is it only now that the issue of corruption has raised against him, or will such issues have been raised if Bukola Saraki was in the good book of the party? Or is Saraki the only northerner that may have had skeletons in his cupboard? It is simply witch hunting and politics orchestrated by those who are opposed to his Senate Presidency and simply a ploy to stop him from presiding over the senate that elected him.’’

He added that the APC youths from the north did not vote for hatred and division within the party say that they voted for entrenchment of internal democracy poining out that the party did not invoke internal machinery for settlement of dispute.

The youth leader warned that if the internal crisis in the APC is not well managed, the party will soon become in the opposition as the best hands would have left.

The group, however, disassociated itself from the call by some northern youth for the Saraki to tender his resignation saying: “the group is ignorant of the politics of the country hence it is clear that there are some elements within the party that are bend to ensure they ridicule the senate president and also stand on his future as a political leader in Nigeria. All we are saying past governors and present National Assembly members should publicly declare their assets for the interest of the change the present administration is clamoring for in order to ensure total transformation in the scheme of things.”

Meanwhile, it seems that Saraki travails had not abated as legislative houses elections petitions tribunal sitting in Ilorin may halt his journey to the senate.
