Stay Back After Hajj And Pay N6m, Saudi Authorities Warn Pilgrims

Authorities in Saudi Arabia have warned foreign pilgrims in the country that they will pay R100,000 (Saudi Riyals) or N6million if they stay back after the annual hajj pilgrimage.  



The warning came from the Saudi Arabia Directorate General of Immigration, who warned the pilgrims not to be tempted to stay more than the duration permitted by their visas.

According to Daily Trust, a statement from the Directorate which was published by an online newspaper, also reminded the pilgrims that they are not allowed to work in the country or move beyond the cities of Makkah, Jeddah and Madinah.


Parts of the statement read: “The directorate has warned companies and institutions working in pilgrim services against holding back any information about delays of any pilgrims in departing. If they do so, they will be fined SR 100,000.


”The fine would be multiplied with the number of violations. Saudis and residents should cooperate with security agencies”.


The directorate also warned accommodation facilities against lodging those who overstay, hiding or helping them in any manner, else they face punishment.

Meanwhile, no fewer than 4,000 Nigerian pilgrims who attended the 2015 Hajj in Saudi Arabia have returned to the country  via Max Air Limited.


Recall that Alhaji Abdullahi Muktar Mohammed, the chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), on Monday, September 28, confirmed that 57 Nigerians  died in  the stampede at Mina, Saudi Arabia, during this year’s Hajj.


Abdulkadir Jega, the brother of the former chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Attahiru Jega and the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Mahmud Mohammed, were among those who died during the stampede that led to the death of over 700 pilgrims at Mina.
