Ebola Alert Debunks Rumours

There have been no reports of Ebola outbreak in Nigeria.

The EbolaAlert has announced that there are no recent cases of Ebola in Nigeria. This was made known on Friday, in a press statement released by the official alert platform for monitoring the deadly decease in Nigeria.

The statement read in part:

We found a fast spreading false rumor of Ebola cases in Nigeria.

The rumor was initiated by an irresponsible blogger who lied that there are cases of Ebola in Nigeria just to generate traffic to her website.

In order to prevent what happened during the Ebola outbreak where people were told to drink salt water and some ended up losing their lives, we are doing this to let you know ahead of this rumor and to also tell your friends and neighbors.

The rumor is false, there is no known case of Ebola in Nigeria.

The statement also reports that the WHO in partnership with Nigerian Center for Disease Control and Lagos State Ministry have trained hospitals across Lagos and other parts of the country on how to report suspected cases if any.

EbolaAlert also added that if there was to be any suspected case, they will be the first to be notified and will disseminate the information to Nigerians through official and appropriate channels. Earlier in the year, there was a scare that the disease had hit Lagos state. This prompted a massive panic among the citizens that some were considering to leave the country.
