Anambra: Home Of The Most Dangerous Drugs Producers – NDLEA

Anambra state has been declared as the producers of the most dangerous drugs in the country by  the National Drug Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).

This declaration was made by the state NDLEA Commander, Sule Momodu, at the Women’s Development Centre in Akwa as part of activities marking this year United Nations  Days Against Drug and Trafficking.


He identified methamphetamine as one of the dangerous drugs produced in the state.


Momodu expressed concern over the increasing production of illicit drugs, abuse and trafficking in the state and called for a concerted effort to stop this development.


He revealed that the anti-drug abuse and trafficking agency arrested at least 122 drug suspects between January and June this year. A breakdown of those arrested shown that 114 were men and eight women.

A total of 110.624kg of illicit drug was seized while cannabis sativa known as marijuana topping with 107.26kg.


The NDLEA commander said that other seizures were cocaine, 138.2 grammes, heroine, 100.54grammes, liquid methamphetamine 2.615kg and solid methamphetamine 510 grammes.


Momodu added that the agency charged  22 suspects  to court, out of which eight convictions were obtained while 28 fresh cases were filed.


He  solicited supports from stakeholders to join in the campaign against drug abuse, expressing  optimism that the state command would fight the drug abuse to a standstill.

Momodu  further stressed that if the war against the use of illicit drug is not won now, the menace may  take over the nation .


He thanked the state governor, Willie Obiano, for his support to the agency, especially involving the agency in the State Security Council and the approval of a parcel of land in Awka, building of the agency’s rehabilitation centre.


Momodu, however, called for the inauguration of the state Drug Control Committee to help drive national drug control plans and objectives.
