Owing to security reasons the Kwara state government has scrapped today’s Independence Day parade.
The event slated for today Thursday, October 1 in Ilorin was cancelled owing to intelligence reports gathered that outsiders were in the state with a plan to unsettle the parade.

Alhaji Sola Gold, secretary to the Kwara state government, in a statement said the cancellation became imperative given the dangers posed to the citizens by these individuals.

This comes on the heels of previous records of insecurity troubles in the nation.
In October 2010, at the Independence Day celebration to mark Nigeria’s 50th anniversary, two bombs went off at the Eagle Square in Abuja killing 12 and injuring over 15.
According to several reports, the attack was masterminded by the Movement for the Emancipation of the Niger Delta.
