Nigeria at 55: Unseen Photos About One Of The Founding Fathers of Nigeria, Obafemi Awolowo

As Nigeria marks her 55th anniversary as a nation today, October 1, many will reminisce on the collective efforts of the country’s founding founders to ensure that the West African nation got sovereignty from Britain.

Among those who contributed to the existence of Nigeria, is the former Premier of Nigeria’s Western Region, late Chief Obafemi Awolowo. ‘Awo’ as he was fondly called by his admirers, was a Nigerian nationalist and statesman who played a key role in Nigeria’s independence movement.

Awolowo’s wife, Mrs Hannah Idowu Dideolu Awolowo, passed on recently, on Saturday, September 19 shortly after a meeting with her family members, at the age of 99.

Naij.com  embarked on a trip to Ikenne, Ogun state, the hometown of the Awolowos to document the life and times of one Nigeria’s political heroes in pictures.

Meanwhile, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce has called for the proper documentation of the activities of politicians in Nigeria who made an impact during their time as political office holders.

In a related development, Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti state, has warned politicians not to politicise the death of the matriarch of the Awolowo family, Late Mrs. Hannah Awolowo
