The Nigerian Defence Headqurters (DHQ) disclosed on Wednesday, September 30, that the body had inaugurated a committee to oversee the process of granting amnesty to Boko Haram insurgents. The committee is to ensure their reintegration into the society.
According to PM News, the DHQ spokesperson, Captain Wap Maigida, made this known in a statement adding that the ones liable to amnesty are those members who were forcefully conscripted into the sect, late surrendered and want to have nothing in common with the terrorists.
The official said that about 315 sect members who had previously surrendered were being detained. He further revealed that due to the effective operations conducted by the Nigerian army had resulted in many insurgents having surrendered.
