Dr. Zainab Bagudu, wife of Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu of Kebbi state has advised mothers to imbibe the habit of exclusive breast feeding for the first 6 months of an infant’s life.
Bagudu gave the advice while addressing nursing mothers and other women in Gwandu local government area on Monday, August 3, as part of activities to mark the World Breastfeeding Week, NAN reports.
According to her, exclusive breastfeeding would enhance the health of mothers and their children, as well as improve the immune system of the babies against killer diseases.

She pledged to strengthen the campaign for exclusive breastfeeding, stressing that it had long term advantage to babies and served as huge economic relief to parents.

She said: “As a consultant pediatrician, I will not relent in initiating policies and programmes that will promote the health sector of the state.’’
Baguda also urged women to desist from feeding their newborn babies with infant formula instead of breast milk.
The governor’s wife then distributed clothing materials, detergents, foodstuff and diapers to 100 nursing mothers (NAN)
The World Health Organization recommends exclusive breast feeding for the first 6 months of an infant’s life.
This World Breastfeeding Week, calls for concerted global action to support women to combine breastfeeding and work. Whether a woman is working in the formal, non-formal or home setting, it is necessary that she is empowered in claiming her and her baby’s right to breastfeed.
