In a separate interview with Naij.com, the cultural ambassador to the Alaafin, Dr. Paula Gomes, called on Nigerians to preserve their culture and heritage saying that Nigerians spend money abroad to witness and appreciate other peoples culture at the detrimental of theirs.
She advised that Nigerians to take their culture and tradition serious and help to preserve it.
Gomes said: “I am very ashamed of Nigerians’s attitude, they treat their own culture and tradition with disdain only to travel to euro to appreciate culture there. If those people did not preserve their culture will they go there?”
Sango, the Yoruba god of thunder, is a deity highly revered by the Yoruba nation. The festival was organised to celebrate Alaafin Sango. The third Alaafin of Oyo, who was said to have reigned around 10 77 AD, had supernatural powers and retained the energy from thunder.
