PHOTOS: Former President, Fayose, Ben Murray-Bruce, Others Visit The Awolowos In Ikenne

The Ikenne home of the Awolowos was a beehive of activities yesterday, September 25, as prominent Nigerians from all walks of life paid a visit to the family of the Awolowos to commiserate with them over the loss of the death of their matriarch, Mrs. HID Awolowo.

A Naij.com reporter who spent the whole day at the expansive compound of the Awolowos in the sleepy town, sighted several known figures in the society who came in droves to identify with the Awolowos.

Among those who visited are Nigeria’s former Interim president, Ernest Shonekan and his wife, Margaret; Ekiti state Governor Ayo Fayose, Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, Billonaires Oba Otudeko and Tunde Folawiyo, who visited in the company of his wife, Reni and step-mum, Hajia Abah Folawiyo.

Others are the publisher of The Guardian newspapers, Mrs. Maiden Ibru, who was accompanied by the Managing Director of the publication, Emeka Izeze; representatives of the Olu of Ibadan; Chief Ajibola Abimbola and Chief Lekan Balogun, President of The Apostolic Church, Pastor Gabriel Olutola, General Overseer, The Word Bible Church, Prophet Julius Babatunde Kumoluyi and the National President of Baptist Academy Old Students Association (BAOSA) Chief Olatunde Onakoya.

Groups like the Theatre Arts and Movie Practitioners Association of Nigeria (TAMPAN), led by its president and veteran actor, Dele Odule and the Ikenne Peoples Forum, led by its leader, Otunba Adeleke Adeshina also visited.

The first daughter of the Awolowo family, Mrs Omotola Oyediran and her sister, Dr. (Mrs) Tokunbo Awolowo were on hand to receive the visitors.

Mrs. Dolapo Osinbajo, wife of Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, was also around. All the visitors were received at the Efunyela Hall inside the compound of the Awolowos.

The HID story: A board  which chronicles the life and times of Mama Awolowo. Beside it is a giant picture of the patriarch and matriarch of the family, Late Chief Obafemi Awolowo and Mrs. Hannah Awolowo

Late Mrs. Hannah Awolowo died two months to her 100th birthday  and almost 30 years after the death of her husband and former Premier of Nigeria’s Western Region, Obafemi Awolowo.
