Nigerian Army Recaptures Borno Town From Boko Haram

Nigerian troops have succeeded in recapturing Gamboru Ngala in Borno state from Boko Haram insurgents, the army spokespersons, Sani Usman said.

Mr. Usman disclosing this in a statement said, the economic and strategic town in the North Eastern part of Nigeria was recaptured by troops of the Nigerian military on Tuesday, September 1.

Although the army spokesperson did not give details, he said: “The triumphant troops are now busy with clearing and mopping up patrols.”

Gamboru Ngala was among the many towns under the captivity of insurgents. It was taken over by Boko Haram almost the same time as Baga, Mubi among others.

Gamboru was earlier liberated by Chadian troops in March this year after it was first captured by insurgents.

It was later recaptured by the Boko Haram terrorists group in the same month.

This led to the killing and displacement of many residents of the town and properties were also destroyed.

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) had earlier said it would soon be the end of Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria as all known terrorists’ camps and hideouts on Nigerian territory have been dislodged.

Recently, at least 56 villagers were killed in a remote area of Borno state, following an attack by the deadly Boko Haram sect.
