Boko Haram: Northern Leaders Should Be Blamed

The Prelate of the Methodist Church of Nigeria, His Eminence, Dr Samuel Emeka Uche said that northern leaders should be blamed for the criminal neglect of Boko Haram.

The Prelate who was worried by the renewed killings occasioned by the activities of insurgents ravaging the northeast said that the criminal neglect of Boko Haram must be addressed and that with the continued killings in the country, it has become necessary for the government to negotiate with the Boko Haram sect.

“The government should negotiate with Boko Haram. It has come to a level where they should negotiate because some of those boys are fighting because of hunger, unemployment and the north has been neglected for so long.

“Leaders in the north should cover their faces in shame because where you don’t have good education, only few people are qualified for the few jobs available.

“That is why we say insurgency can be traced to criminal neglect by the leadership from the north.

“They have not been taking care of their people and if you go into details, you will find out that kidnapping in the east and armed robbery in the west are all products of neglect.

“Even now we are neglecting our young people and how do you think that these crimes will end? So they should negotiate, atone for their sins, confess and let there be peace in Nigeria.”

The Prelate equally called on President Buhari to look beyond former President Jonathan’s administration in his fight against corruption saying it is not the only corrupt regime.

“I support the man in authority, President Buhari. He was said to be a man of integrity but that integrity is questionable if he cannot be fair and just to everybody.

“The solution to corruption is to begin with ourselves.

“If we love our country and we know that we are not the only people insisting we end corruption, corruption begins from ourselves because corruption is everywhere and it has involved everybody, including, the church and mosque.”

Northern Nigeria has recently witnessed a resurgence of attacks from the notorious Boko Haram terrorist group. The group seems to have changed its tactics since the Nigerian Military upped its offensive against the terrorist’s hideouts and territories.
