After 8 Months Break, Mubi Poly Reopens Despite Boko Haram Terror

It is over 8 months the Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, Adamwa state, went on a long vacation after insurgent attacks by the Boko Haram sect.


The Federal Polytechnic, Mubi, closed in October, 2014, in the wake of Boko Haram invasion of the town.


However, in a report made available to NAN by the director of Information and Protocol, Philip Ndalamu, the school has now been re-opened for academic work.


Ndalamu made this disclosure in Yola on Sunday, June 28, saying lectures would commence Monday.

“We re-opened three weeks ago and the staffs have equally resumed work. Arrangements have been put in place for students who have been returning to commence lectures on Monday,” Ndalamu said.

Ndalamu said major repair works of structures damaged by the insurgents had been concluded.


It was also gathered that the College of Health Technology, Mubi, similarly closed during the insurgency re-opened three months ago but Adamawa State University also located in the town has yet to resume.




On October 29, the Islamist group, Boko Haram stormed Mubi, Adamawa state as they carried out a massive attack causing residents to flee including troops.


The Nigerian Defence Headquarters confirmed that an entire battalion of soldiers fled the town of Mubi when the dreaded Boko Haram sect attacked.



Out of the over 400 students studying in the state, 17 of students of Adamawa State University and Federal Polytechnic in Mubi were rescued nights after the attack by the Benue state government and evacuated to Makurdi.


The students recounting their ordeal to Punch described their escape the Boko Haram attack in Mubi as a “divine intervention”.


According to a 200 Level Business Administration student, simply identified as Terna who was one of the lucky ones rescued while speaking to the media outfit said they spent two nights in the bush in a bid to find their way to Maiha Local Government Area, the closest area to Mubi.
