Abdullahi Ganduje, the governor of Kano state, has set 14 inmates of the Kurmawa Central Prison free after he paid their fines.

Daily Post reports that Governor Abdullahi announced his decision to release the inmates on Friday, September 25, during his visit to the prison in Kano.
According to Abdullahi, his gesture is a part of the state government’s efforts to ease sufferings of the common man, especially those prisoners who could not pay the fine.

The governor also gave the 14 inmates N5, 000 each to enable them transport themselves to their hometowns and villages. He called on them to lead a good life after their reunion with their families.
Alhaji Ahmed Abubakar, the comptroller of prisons in the state, commended Abdullahi for the gesture and the state government for its continuous support for prisons in the state.
Earlier this year, 34 inmates who were awaiting trial in Ado Ekiti federal prisons were released.
The chief judge of Ekiti state, Ayodeji Daramola, explained that the released had no case to answer from the ministry of justice and lamented the large number of inmates awaiting trial in the prison.
