“It is very unfortunate because during my own time they used me as a scape goat. But now the chips are down more revelations will be known and wherever Blatter is now he’ll certainly be jittery.

“Blatter should be sent on suspension immediately. During my case, the first thing they did was to send me on suspension. Now Blatter is under criminal investigations, he cannot seat in office and I’m waiting to see what the ethics committee will do. I’ll urge them to come out and play by the rules.

“So, he (Blatter) should go on suspension immediately. Platini who was also mentioned to be part of the saga should be suspended too, leaving the vice president of FIFA to take over. That is the law!

“I didn’t see anything corrupt in my own case, all what they did was to get me out of the way because elections were coming. When my case started, I picked a lawyer from London and the lawyer went to the ethics committee and defended me. Just some days after that, FIFA called my lawyers to drop my case and told them they shouldn’t defend me because they sensed I may get out free if my lawyers continue to defend me.

“So the lawyers came to me and say because of conflict of interest, they cannot continue with the case. That was when their boss told me that FIFA instructed them to drop the case. They advised me to go to another lawyer that can handle my case and I told them to refund my money I had paid to them which they did.

“I got another lawyer but still FIFA told me to resign and they would drop my case but I told them I wouldn’t. The ethics committee however went ahead to suspend me and so they should do the same to Blatter and Platini to show they are Independent.

“I wasn’t bitter because I know my conscience was clear. What they did to me was wrong but they have their reasons for doing so. They gave me a 3-year suspension because they thoughts I will be CAF president in 2 years from then (2014). However, Isa Hayatou didn’t step down after the three years and he got another term.

“They even later came out to say what I did wasn’t about corruption, it was about ethics. That why should I speak to people I don’t know and why should I tell them they should come and help Nigeria football.

“Maybe one of the mistakes I made was to talk to representatives when I could have told them to go and talk to the Nigeria Football Federation. But everyone makes mistakes and I’ve learnt from mine.”

When ask where the pendulum of FIFA presidency will swing, Adamu tipped Orji Uzor kalu to do the unexpected. He said: “I believe Nigeria can get the FIFA presidency, that’s why I’m supporting Orji Uzor Kalu.”

Stating his reasons for supporting Orji Uzor Kalu and not former Super Eagles Player Segun Odegbami, who people say are not best of friends, Adamu said: “Kalu is more equipped to run for FIFA presidency in terms of resources unlike Odegbami. There’s no truth in reports that I and Odegbami don’t speak. We visit ourselves occasionally and exchange greetings wherever we meet.”

Adamu was banned by FIFA in November 2010 after he was found guilty of agreeing to receive £500,000 in order to influence the voting procedure with his vote for the 2018 FIFA World Cup bid. Despite his denial, an investigation by FIFA Ethics Committee found him guilty and was banned for three years. He also received 10,000 Swiss franc fine.
