Read The Only Reason Why Women Should Terminate Pregnancy

Editor’s note: There is now little regard for the life of a child in the mother’s womb. Most people are only concerned about their own pleasure: men and women demand the right to have sex and then kill the outcome of it. Eustace Dunn, Naij.com’s senior editor, writes about abortion — the issue of global debate, offers his views on the value for life and the only reason women have to terminate their pregnancies.

In a profound reverie, Sandra lies on a couch in her parents’ apartment one morning when a man breaks in. He came to settle some scores with her father who isn’t at home at that moment. So Sandra takes the bullet for being the father’s daughter. And then Sandra dies.

She was innocent; she knew nothing about what her father may have done. Is it not cruel to take the life of a human? A life that is not guilty of a mistake made by another, is it not cruel? This is how the lives of unborn children are taken whereas they are not the cause of their conceptions.

Helena Wahlström, an American lecturer of English at the University of Gävle in Sweden, once said that abortion is a social practice involving both men and women, and stressed gendered and sexualized positions of empowerment and need. It is when pregnancy is ended so that it does not result in the birth of a child.

If it is agreed that killing should be regarded as inhumane, then it is the same about aborting a child who committed no crime.

The value for human life and the act of abortion

The clamour for legal rights to have abortion many countries is a heavy fight against the existence of God and mankind. It is unreasonable to abort children owing to the values attached to human life, ethical standards, morality and the after effects the act has on mothers and potential mothers alike.

People across the globe often give flimsy reasons to abort their babies. Some base their reasons on the fact that they are poor and would not be able to carter for the children when they are born. Others will say they were raped and could not afford raising children without their fathers. Whatever reason anyone may have, they are never acceptable to justify the act of abortion.

Why is this war against the child taken so seriously? Why would a woman decide that a child must die for her to live as she wishes? If you say that it is not bad for a mother to kill her own child, then is there any difference between this direct murder by the mother herself and the physical killing of one another that you condemn?

Women should think about these unborn babies and think of what they should have become if they were not murdered. How most of the doctors feel in their new roles of killing babies in the womb is another bone of contention.

How could termination of unborn children be justified?

Although medical doctors in some countries, due to the enacted legal rights to terminate pregnancies, have taken it as money-making ventures, it gladdens one’s heart that others still value human life by doing everything humanly possible to apply resuscitative measure to revive fetus from late abortions.

Right to abortion in many countries has now incited women against their unborn children. People forget the rightness and wrongness of the action of taking human life. Do not forget that the problem found in a circumstance where a woman is raped and eventually becomes pregnant is not hinged on the fact that she is pregnant but because she was raped.

What about women who become pregnant in the midst of starvation? The problem there is not whether they are pregnant but because they are starving. An unwanted pregnancy is not as a result of a mistake made by the bearer. Once there is consent to sex without proper contraception, there is the implication of pregnancy. Once this happens, it means there is another life growing in you. By then, you owe the fetus every ethical obligation to be safe.

Thus, since abortion is a deliberate elimination of a fetus which is a member of biological species homo sapiens, it is considered as murder, and the murder of a human is morally wrong. If you reject the argument against abortion, then you must reject your already existing beliefs like the wrongness of infanticide, or murder is bad.

More importantly, scholars have made it clear that children in uterus start perceiving things at an early stage of pregnancy. On the sixth week their brains start working at the same time with their heartbeats. Based on this, it is important to know that at this stage, any abortion carried out will put an end to a human life that already has a sense of feeling and thought. When this infant murder occurs, it has effects on you.

According to American Pregnancy Association: “Side effects that come after abortion could last from 2-4 weeks. Abortion is harmful, tragic and has lots of psychological consequences that go with it.”

Post-abortion stress disorder

You wouldn’t want to live with anguish, depression, self-condemnation and regret for the rest of your life after taking another’s life. You would not want to say someday when you eventually cannot have a child that if you had known, you would have left the baby to live. What about damage to your other organs, persistent bleeding or even your death? After an abortion, you are not the same person you used to be no matter how hard you try to forget it.

As a prolife vantage point and the moralistic mentality abortion is a horrible act. It’s unfortunate that countries have to legalize it due to some economic reasons which are villainous. In countries where abortion is not legalized, quack abortionists have sprung up and have ended up killing people in the process.

The exception for abortion

As bad as abortion may be, there are exceptions to it. There may be times when there are complications in pregnancies. In order to save the life of a mother, the pregnancy ought to be terminated. Apart from this exception, no other reason is justifiable if one puts in mind the value for human life, becomes conscious of our moral values and the after-effects abortion would have.

Stop every act that may lead to unwanted pregnancy and eventual abortion by either practicing abstinence or protecting yourself from being an accomplice. Save the world and help in making it a better society free from emotional torture.
