Rivers state governor, Nyesom Wike has described as petty the statement credited to his predecessor, Rotimi Amaechi that Justice Geroge Omereji panel of inquiry was set to drag his name to the mud.

Wike made this statement in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, September 1, as part of activities to mark his 100 days in office.
He said rather than Amaechi to appear before the commission to clear the air on how he managed the state’s resources he is saturating the media with claims of how much he allegedly left on May 29, 2015, Vanguard reports.
The governor promised the Rivers people that his government would be devoid of propaganda and lie, adding that his tenure will stand by the truth at all times.

He queried Amaechi claims that he left billion but failed to maintain the state civil servants by paying salaries promptly. Wike said it was unthinkable that with the money that his successor claimed to have left in several banks he could not pay WAEC fees for students from the state.
Wike said: “Do you believe that Rivers State Government owed WAEC. It was a government that believed in so much propaganda .You said you kept such money for us and you could not pay WAEC, salaries, pensioners, salaries of Sharks football club. Today Rivers people can sit to say that our own style is not to use the media to tell lies.”
He dismissed the claims of the ex-governor that the commission would not be fair to him saying that was the only avenue for Amaechi and his aides to explain to the Rivers people how they run the government since his predecessor did not drop an handover note.

“We saw huge sums transferred to different companies in one week with one address. We don’t understand the details of the transaction and said come and explain to Rivers people at the commission, is this persecution?
“We don’t know what our power assets are. This was the only state where there was no handover. We are paying N4 billion loans given to farmers but we saw that these farmers were council chairmen under the former governor, so we are calling for explanation. Are all these not issues that should be clarified at the commission,” Wike concluded.
Meanwhile, Amaechi has revealed that he left N8 billion in three banks when he left government on May 29. He challenged Wike’s administration to publish the statements of accounts for all to see.
