The former Nigerian Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Akinwumi Adesina, was sworn in as the 8th president of the African Development Bank today, September 1, 2015.
The event held in Abidjan, Ivory Coast.

In attendance were; Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, former Minister of Finance, Ngozi Okonjo Iweala, Aliko Dangote and former Ekiti state governor, Kayode Fayemi.

Giving his inaugural speech, Adeshina said: “We must integrate Africa – grow together, develop together. Our collective destiny is tied to breaking down the barriers separating us.

“Only by rapidly transforming agriculture sector can Africa meet needs of urban population while boosting incomes & jobs.”

Adeshina took over from Donald Kaberuka, whose 10-year tenure ended yesterday.
Immediately he was elected as 8th President of the AfDB, Adesina said he would fight poverty in Africa through the continental development bank.
