Find Out What North East Lawmakers Think Of Buhari’s Appointments

Despite the criticisms of President Muhammadu Buhari’s appointments, the members of the North-East lawmakers of the National Assembly pledged their support.

 

 

 

 

This was disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Abuja on Wednesday.

The group led by Sen. Danjuma Goje (Gombe Central) consists of eight Senators and House of Representatives members.

Sen. Goje stressed that the tribe of the appointed individuals should not be a point of concern adding that the first 20 people appointed by President Barrack Obama were his Harvard schoolmates.

He also added that the position of the Chief of staff should be given based on discretion and their ability to work hard.

“It is high time we got it right, it is not about where a man comes from but what he can deliver.

“We recall that most key appointment in the last administration were from the southern part and no one made any issue about it.

“We appeal to Nigerians that this administration is just about 100 days, there are thousands of appointments to be made by Mr President, therefore we believe that no section of the country will be marginalized.

“If Nigeria must move forward, we need to make a choice, either we decide on an ethnic free future or we hold on to ethnic sentiments and zoning and remain backwards.

“This is why we the National Assembly Members from the North East zone of Nigeria are throwing our weight behind Mr President,” he said.

Sen. Binta Garba (Adamawa North), who also supported the appointments said that the North East is in dire need of government presence and this appointment will provide credible people for the job.

“I do not believe anybody should be discriminated for any reason but in appointments, National development should be paramount not ethnic divide.

“Change has come and we should give the President the benefit of doubt so that we can bring the Nigeria of past glory,” she said.

Naij.com recalls that the recent appointment of SGF and Chief of staff caused backlash from Nigerians stating that he favoured the Northerners.
