Northern Appointments: Buhari Is Replicating Pattern Left Behind By GEJ (EVIDENCE)

“(Going by election results), constituencies that gave me 95% cannot in all honesty be treated, on some issues, with constituencies that gave me five per cent. I think these are political realities. While, certainly there will be justice for everybody but the people who voted, and made their votes count, they must feel the government has appreciated the effort they put in putting the government in place.”

The aforementioned quote is an excerpt from President Muhammadu Buhari statement with journalist during a question and answer session in his visit to the United States of America last month.

The presidency however dismissed the quote above saying President Buhari will not short-change any part of the country according to the way it voted in the March 28 presidential election.

But in a statement read yesterday, August 27, by Femi Adesina, special adviser to the president on media and publicity, President Buhari approved the appointment of 6 more key officials which takes the total number of appointments to 35 in three months.

According to a report on Premium Times, 25 % of President Muhammadu Buhari appointments have been from the south while an overwhelming 75 % are the north.

The report also shows that the North-West geopolitical zones have the biggest share of 41 %, while the South-East has no appointee.

This has caused outrage among Nigerians and critics who believe the appointments have been ethnically lopsided, lacking in gender balance and regional equity.

Going down memory lane after a careful perusal, Naij.com has taken a look at the President Muhammadu Buhari’s 35 appointees with relation to previous appointees in the immediate past administration of Goodluck Jonathan based on ethnicity.
