There has been viral report that the Vice President, Yemi Osinbajo visited Calabar yesterday, June 25, and brought the city to a lockdown for about 10 hours thereby denying residents to go about their normal daily activities.
The spokesperson for the VP, Laolu Akande, in a reaction to the report, released a statement this morning, June 26.
He said Osinbajo was in Calabar and Lagos on Thursday June 25 to pay tribute to two eminent Nigerians whose lives reflect the very virtues of integrity, trustworthiness and social justice that can lift our dear nation. According to him, one was to the late Justice P.O.E Bassey, while the other visit was to Dr. Christopher Kolade.

He arrived Calabar at about 10.30 attending the Justice P.O.E Bassey Memorial Lecture, at the University of Calabar, and left the town about 15.30, heading for Lagos where he spoke at the Convention for Integrity 3rd Annual Lecture.

The spokesman dismissed claims that the VP brought the city to a standstill for 10 hours.
“Claims that the town was in a lock down because of his visit is just another mischievous and baseless report from some of the same social media quarters that misled the nation in the past about his purported exclusion from security meetings. The Vice President did not even spend ten hours in Calabar and could not have locked down the town, as his convoy moved freely among the people in regular traffic as he normally does,” the statement read.
Laolu further stated that, he personally observed several people go about their normal activities and business without any hindrance and claimed the VP had since returned to the FCT after the trips.
Meanwhile, the VP has also been selected to lead committee on sharing money from crude account.
