There have been multiple reports on suicide bombs attacks in two areas of Borno state on Saturday June 27, 2015.
According to Leadership, two suspected female suicide bombers emerged from the bush on the outskirts of Jakana town, about 40 km to the west of Maiduguri. The duo allegedly wanted to hitchhike to the capital of Borno state, with bombs concealed under their clothes. However, the drivers ignored the suspicious women.
“At about 4.20pm, we heard a loud explosion and when we rushed there, we met one of them shattered by the explosion while the other got killed but still have the bomb she strapped around her waist intact, undetonated.
“Many motorists have become wary of picking female passengers especially on this Kano-Maiduguri highway because of the several cases of female suicide bombing incidents recorded,” a local police officer said.
Molai attack
Twin suicide bombers suspected to be targeting a market in Molai village, ended with storming the Missionary Leprosy and General Hospital, killing two people.
Vanguard reports that the two men allegedly came to the area from Sambisa forest. They picked a very busy time, 3pm, when the market was extremely crowded.
However, the suicide bombers were scared by tight security in the area and decided to detonate their improvised explosive devices at the hospital entrance.
An source of SaharaReporters gave more details about the attack on the hospital. Accoring to it, suicide bombers stormed a hospital with a TV set and a DVD player in their hands. He said the bombers tried to forcibly enter the premises of the hospital. A gateman prevented them. Then they blew themselves.
A security source said that three people died while 18 were injured. A hospital source feared the death toll might rise.
The reports on the gender of suicide bombers are conflicting, as the source of SaharaReporters claimed they were female.
Molai is located south of the Borno state capital, about 10 km drive to the metropolis along the closed down Maiduguri-Damboa-Biu road.
