Buhari To Inaugurate National Economic Council

President Muhammadu Buhari is set to ignore negative reactions of his first month in office and move ahead with his agenda of taking the nation forward.


This follows the president will to inaugurate the National Economic Council (NEC) on Monday, June 29 which will be constitutionally headed by Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, The Nation reports.

One of the constitutional responsibilities of the NEC is to give advice to the president on economic affairs of the federation.

Also, the NEC will advise the president on the necessary measures for co-ordination of the economic planning efforts and economic programmes of the various government of the federation.


The inauguration will hold at the Presidential Villa by 11am.


It is gathered that the NEC, which is expected to meet every month, normally have members including all state governors, ministers of National Planning, Finance, and Justice, minister of the Federal Capital Territory and Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).



President Buhari’s will to inaugurate the NEC comes hours after he dismissed an assessment by the opposition PDP that his performance in the last 30 days (first month in office) was “30 days of all motion and no movement”.
