Speaking while breaking Ramadan fast(Iftar) with some internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Maiduguri the governor said: “We have started feeling the impacts of President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.”
There are 22 IDP camps established in the Borno state capital.
The governor broke his fast at the camp located at Yerwa Girls College in Maiduguri. He was in the company of the Emir of Bama, Alhaji Kyari Ibn Ibrahim Elkanemi who became a displaced person after a Boko Haram attack on Bama in 2014.
Shettima spoke after the ‘Iftar’ to the displaced persons in English and Kanuri languages saying since Buhari’s inauguration he has been working silently to fund activities across the 22 IDPs camps in Maiduguri.
he said the norm under former president Goodluck Jonathan was to leave states with the responsibility of taking care of the welfare of the IDP camps and its inhabitants.
According to This Day, the governor said: “We have started feeling the impacts of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration. For instance, from 2013 when we started establishing camps for displaced persons in Biu for the people of Damboa and to the number of camps we have now, the Borno State Government solely bore the biggest burden of funding these IDPs’ camps until a few days ago.
“Today, with the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari, the Federal Government, through the National Emergency Management Agency, NEMA, has taken over so many responsibilities in these camps and this is how it ought to be ab initio. Today, under the Buhari administration, we have a NEMA that has accelerated its presence in Borno.”
The governor also expressed his desire to rebuild his state following months of destruction of buildings, offices, houses and more by the Islamist sect.

He said: “As we continue to pray for the return of peace in this state, I urge all of you here today to exercise more patience and endurance of being displaced for many months from your destroyed homes and communities. We assure you that with this relative peace, this administration will commence the rebuilding and rehabilitation of all the destroyed communities immediately after this Ramadan.
Borno state is one of many states in the country that has been affected by insurgency. However through months of intense battle, the Nigerian military has been able to kill most of the insurgents in the state.
